Litter Control
Department: Litter - Public Works
Rate: Grade 8 Step 1 $10.19
Hours: Day Hours - Occasional overtime required
Summary:
Under the supervision of the Property Maintenance Supervisor, the employee performs litter control activities on City roads and right-of-ways on assigned routes. The employee maintains a log of activities, notes and reports illegal dump sites.
Primary Responsibilities:
Picks up the trash and debris on assigned routes within the city limits of Alexander City
Operates City vehicle and trailer (if required)
Conducts routine and special pickups as needed
Initiates appropriate actions to safeguard workers and ensure hazardous waste is properly handled and disposed of in an approved manner
Takes waste/litter to appropriate dump facility
Performs administrative functions to document daily activities
Reports all problems or unusual situations to supervisor
Ability to work without direct supervision
Assist other departments as needed
Performs others related duties as assigned
Job Requirements:
High school diploma or GED
Must have knowledge of City streets
Possess a valid driving license
Must have a driving record suitable for insurability
Ability to deal with all contacts in a courteous and patient manner
Must be physically able to perform the functions of the job
Physical Requirements:
Bending, squatting, twisting, kneeling and lifting. Walking for extended periods of time. Performing manual tasks for extended periods of time and in unfavorable weather conditions (temperatures of over 90 degrees and below 32 degrees). Exposure to air contaminants, noise and vibration.
