Employee Benefits

Health and Dental Insurance

Medical, Dental, and Prescription Drug coverage is provided through LGHIP (Local Government Health Insurance Plan), Blue Cross Blue Shield of Alabama and OptumRx. Individual coverage is provided to employees at no cost. Family coverage expense is cost shared between the employee and employer. 

Life Insurance

Life insurance coverage is provided through One America. The City provides Group Term Life/Accidental Death Insurance for all regular, full-time employees.

Vision Insurance

Vision insurance coverage is available through Superior Vision. 

Cafeteria Plan

Section 125 Cafeteria Plan is a benefit provided by the City that may provide tax savings to employees who elect to participate. 

Retirement 

The City offers state retirement benefits through RSA (Retirement Systems of Alabama). Participation in the Employees' Retirement System (ERS) is mandatory for all non-temporary City employees. Employees hired after January 1, 2013, are considered Tier 2 ERS members. However, the City has elected to provide Tier 1 benefits to Tier 2 members.  

Paid Sick and Vacation

Regular full-time employees accrue 8 hours of sick leave per month, 96 hours annually. Vacation leave is accrued at the following rates:

Part-time employees accrue sick and vacation hours at half of the rates above. Employees may carry forward 160 vacation hours annually. Employees may accumulate and carry forward an unlimited amount of sick leave.

Holidays

The City of Alexander City has 12 paid holidays annually. 

School Leave

Employees are granted 2 hours of leave to attend school functions of their children or grandchildren.

City Utilities

Employees who are city utility customers receive discounted utility rates. 

Parks & Recreation Fees

Employees receive discounted rates for youth sports registration, golf membership and facility rentals.
