Job Definition
The Wastewater Treatment Plant Maintenance/electrician employee troubleshoots, repairs, maintains, and replaces Wastewater Treatment Plant equipment and systems. The incumbent works under the general supervision of the Wastewater Maintenance Lead employee.
Essential Functions
- Performs a variety of skilled repair and maintenance tasks on pumps, electrical and electronic controls, and heating equipment
- Maintains the plant’s preventive maintenance program
- Ensures work is performed in accordance with sound safety practices and using appropriate safety devices and equipment
- Ability to troubleshoot and solve problems with electrical and electronic controls
- Read and interpret results as reported on test meters
- Performs work that involves the use of blueprints, electronic schematic drawings, and manufacturer’s installation/repair instructions
- Performs routine building maintenance
- Performs other job related duties as required
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Extensive knowledge of the working and repair of pumps, electrical and heating equipment used in a wastewater treatment plant
- Extensive knowledge of the standards of the plumbing and electrical trades as they apply to a municipal wastewater treatment operation
- Knowledge of electronic controls
- Knowledge of safety rules including accident causation and prevention
- Writing skills to complete required maintenance forms and records
- Reading skills to understand plans, manuals, instructions, and procedures
- Ability to read blue prints, electrical drawings and manufacture installation/repair instructions
- Ability to communicate information in a clear and concise manner
- Ability to obtain a Grade IV Operator certification within 3 years
- Knowledge of pertinent federal, state, and local codes, laws, and regulations
- Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work, including the ability to interact effectively and courteously with the public, co-workers, vendors, and other departments
Qualifications
- Be a graduate from an accredited high school, or possess a GED
- Two years of experience with troubleshooting and repair of pumps, valves, and related electrical equipment including electronic controls, or equivalent technical training
- Possess a valid Alabama driver’s license and a driving record suitable for insurability
- Ability to obtain CDL license
- Be physically able to perform the essential functions of the position. Physical requirements include frequent walking, standing, stooping, bending, crawling, and climbing of unusual heights. In addition, incumbent will be required to lift, carry, push and/or pull moderate to heavy amounts of weight. Employee will be working in all types of weather conditions, and in/around water
- Be able to attend continuing education courses and workshops
