Pay Rate: Grade 11 - $12.14
Hours: Day Hours occasional overtime will be required
Summary:
Under the supervision of the Street Superintendent or Foreman, the employee operates heavy equipment at a relatively high skill level in the performance of moderately complex construction and maintenance tasks. The employee also performs other tasks associated with maintaining streets and rights-of-way, including the use of hand and power tools. Performs routine labor and other duties as required.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Operates heavy equipment such as dozer, loader, excavator, motor grader.
- Also operates dump trucks, street broom, compactor, backhoe, tractor with attachments, etc., as necessary.
- Ensures that trucks are properly loaded, hauls materials, unloads and spreads materials
- Installs, lays, and places drainage pipes
- Maintains unimproved and improved streets
- Performs grade work
- Clears land, digs trenches, opens and closes cemetery graves.
- Performs routine and preventative maintenance on assigned vehicle and equipment
- Operates hand tools and power tools as necessary
- Performs flagman duties
- Cleans out ditches and pipes
- Performs concrete work as necessary
- Clears debris from streets and rights of way
- Performs routine manual labor and all other duties as necessary
Job Requirements:
Be a graduate of an accredited high school or have a GED. Must have a valid Class B Commercial Driver’s License or must obtain within 6 months of hire. Must have a driving record suitable for insurability. Must be able to operate dump trucks, tractor with attachments, loader, dozer, excavator, blue top with motor grader, and final dress with dozer. Must be able to effectively communicate in order to receive instructions. Knowledge of grades and slopes preferred. Must be able to read and understand work orders. Basic computer skills required to be able to enter and complete work orders, perform inspections, etc. Able to obtain and maintain QCI certification. Able to work in inclement weather conditions. Able to lift 100 pounds. Willing to work non-standard hours and overtime as required and able to respond after hours for emergencies. Be physically able to perform the essential functions of the position (walking, climbing, stooping, and bending).
