Department: Sportplex
Hours: Night Hours (3:00 – 11:00) occasional overtime will be required
Rate: Grade 8 ($12.08)
Summary:
The role of the Security Guard is to endure the safety of visitors to the Alex City Sportplex. The
Security Guard will be responsible for the following: patrolling the ballfields, assisting with
visitor’s issues, assisting with disorderly visitors and completing security reports. This position
reports directly to Parks and Recreation Director.
Primary Responsibilities:
Watches for irregularities, facility and safety hazards, and emergency situations; contacts
emergency responders, such as police, fire, and/or ambulance personnel as required
Remains alert for the presence of unauthorized persons; approaches suspicious person
and/or notifies police as appropriate; may confront and detain violators, as required,
until police arrive
Patrols assigned area on foot, or in golf cart as assigned, to ensure personal, building, and
equipment security
Examines doors, windows, and gates to ensure security
Provides escorts as necessary
Informs and warns violators of rule infractions, such as loitering, smoking, or carrying
forbidden
Performs periodic checks of street lights to ensure proper functioning; reports all
malfunctioning as required
Performs job-related duties as assigned
Job Requirements:
Must be a graduate of an accredited high school or GED
Must have a driver’s license and good driving record to be insurable
Willing to work non-standard hours and overtime as required
Must have good communication skills both orally and in writing
Ability to work outside in extreme weather conditions
Ability to comprehend numerous policies, procedures, concepts and to be able to
respond, using discretion and interpretive judgment based on general and specific
policies
Ability to retain knowledge, information, and directions on an ongoing basis.
Must be able to react appropriately in emergency situations
Knowledge of cardiopulmonary resuscitation and first aid is preferred
Knowledge of portable fire extinguishers and their locations
Ability to walk extended periods of time. Must be physically able to perform the essential
functions of the position (walking, climbing, stooping, and bending)
