Pay Rate: Grade 10
Hours: Tuesday thru Friday - 7:30 – 5:00, & Saturday 9:00 – 1:00
Off - Sunday and Monday
Summary:
This position involves the application of standard library techniques, circulation, cataloging, reference, research, and other library service duties as assigned. Reports to the Library Director.
Primary Responsibility:
- Performs duties requiring the application of standard library techniques and procedures with areas of assignment that include circulation, cataloging, reference, and research.
- Answers reference questions for patrons.
- Assists and guides patrons with the use of electronic resources.
- Checks and maintains patron memberships and circulation reports, including over dues, reserves, requests, and inventory.
- Prepares bulletin boards, exhibits, and displays.
- Plans and executes library programs, events, and services.
- Opens both libraries daily, reconciles cash boxes, checks and maintains book returns.
- Processes Interlibrary loans.
- Attends continuing education classes and seminars as required.
- Maintains periodicals and newspapers.
- Helps select and maintain Alabama History Room collection.
- Performs other job related tasks and duties as assigned.

- Ability to work well with library patrons, the public, volunteers, community agencies, the city, and library staff
- Possess a comprehensive knowledge of library procedures
- Bookkeeping and organizational skills
- Neat personal appearance
- Regular and punctual attendance
- Pleasing manner
- Stability
Physical Requirements:
May lift or move up to 20 – 30 lbs.
Standing, sitting, reaching, walking, climbing and/or bending
Minimum Education, Training, and Experience Required:
Must have high school diploma or GED
An Associate Degree is preferred, but not required
Library and/or customer service experience preferred, but not required
