Right-of-Way Permits

The City of Alexander City requires that a permit be obtained prior to construction of utilities within City rights-of-way. The owner of the facilities to be installed or his or her designee must first submit an Application for Right-of-Way Permit to the City Engineer's office for review. All designs, drawings, engineering specifications, and maps of the proposed utilities including drainage, pipes, and ditches to be placed in the City rights-of-way must be submitted to the City Engineer's office along with said application prior to construction for inspection, review, and approval.

Upon approval, the City Engineer will issue a permit for the construction of said project as permitted. The applicant must notify the City Engineer or his representative (24) hours prior to starting work and (72) hours prior to closing any roadway or interruption of traffic flow.

The City Engineer or his representative will perform inspections during the course of work. Unsatisfactory observations may lead to a stop work order, subsequent revocation of this permit, and/or further actions may be pursued.

The applicant must restore the general area of work including disturbed landscaping, sodding, paving, etc., per the City’s adopted construction standards and the specifications of the City Engineer. The applicant must contact the City Engineer's office for scheduling of final inspection when the work is complete.

For a detailed explanation of required standards and specifications, please refer to the Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT) Utility Manual, adopted as the standard by the City of Alexander City.
