FOG Program

Cease the Grease

The City of Alexander City actively strives to prevent FOG (fats, oils, and grease) from entering the City’s sanitary sewer system in an effort to reduce sanitary sewer overflows (SSOs) and backups caused by FOG-related issues.

What's the Big Deal?

Greasy clogs cause sewage to back up into homes and even overflow into the streets, streams, rivers, and lakes in our community. Those who pour grease down their drains, likely are the first ones affected by sewer backups. Clearing sewer pipes blocked with grease is extremely costly to both the homeowner and the city.

How Can I Help?

Do NOT pour fats, oil, or grease down the drain of any sink. Pour cooled grease into a disposable container, such as an empty soup can or milk jug, and throw it in your household garbage container. Before washing dishes, wipe them out with a paper towel. You can also participate in our Grease Recycling Program. Help us keep the sanitary sewer system FOG-free and flowing!
