INTRODUCTION
The Alexander City School System has experienced much success during its existence. The excellent reputation of our schools has largely contributed to the growth and prosperity of our City. Although a Board of Education alone does not make a school system, it certainly is a major player in the success or failure of a system.
Construction of the new Benjamin Russell High School will begin soon. The City has worked in a collaborative effort with the Alexander City Board of Education (BOE) over the last eight years to help secure this project. The construction of a new high school facility will provide additional opportunities for enhanced training and education of the youth within our community.
The City of Alexander City is embarking on a project that will set a vision for our community for years to come. The City Council and Mayor Baird are working with Place Associates to build a Comprehensive Plan, update the Zoning Ordinance, Zoning Map, and Subdivision Regulations. The comprehensive plan is a guiding document for growth and development based on the community's stated goals and values. The zoning ordinance, zoning map and the subdivision regulations are in accordance with the comprehensive plan in supporting the specifics in developing land.
The City of Alexander City is proud to support the Two Rivers Lumber Company, LLC that will be locating in the Kellyton Industrial Park. Mayor Woody Baird stated, “I would like to welcome Two Rivers Lumber to Alexander City as a community partner that I feel will have a great impact on the economy of our area. The cooperation between Lake Martin Area Economic Development, Alexander City and Coosa County brought us to this point.
