Job:                           Plant Operator Trainee

Department:          Wastewater Treatment

Pay:                           Grade 13     

Hours:                      12 Hour Night Shift (Train on day shift)

 

Summary:

The Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator Trainee is responsible for learning the proper operations of the Wastewater Treatment plant, while assisting the certified operators. This includes maintenance of building, grounds and all related equipment.  The Trainee is required to make tests and observations required for the proper operation of the plant, and to satisfy the appropriate reporting agency regulations.  Works under the supervision of the Chief Plant Operator.

 

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Perform precise laboratory tests and record the results
  • Check and maintain all equipment
  • Perform janitorial duties
  • Paint buildings and equipment
  • Calibrate chemical feed equipment and laboratory equipment
  • Answer emergency calls
  • Participate in formal and informal training in preparation for Class IV certification
  • Operate mowers and power equipment
  • Perform other job related duties as required

 

Job Requirements:

  • Must be a graduate of an accredited high school or have GED.
  • Must obtain Grade IV Water Certification within two years.
  • Must have a valid Alabama’s driver’s license and a driving record suitable for insurability.
  • Ability to perform basic math. 
  • Good communication skills, both verbal and in writing. 
  • Ability to follow instructions in the areas of maintenance, safety and laboratory procedures. 
  • Willing to travel overnight to attend continuing education courses and workshops. 
  • Be physically able to perform the essential functions of the position (walking, climbing, stooping, and bending). 
  • Willing to work non-standard hours as required.  Must complete certification 24 months from start date.
