Job:                          Tree Trimmer/Climber

Department:         Light Department

Pay Rate:                Grade 15​

Hours:                     Day Hours ​​Occasion Overtime Required

 

Summary:

Trimming of trees, working under supervision of the Light Department Superintendent and Assistant Superintendent.

 

 Primary Responsibilities:

• Perform skilled work in the removal of limbs and trees in areas that are impeding municipal power distribution operations

• Climb trees in order to get into position to accomplish tasks

• Ascend trees carrying the needed equipment or has the means to secure the equipment once in required position

• Is proficient in operating required tree trimming equipment such as bucket trucks, ropes, safety harnesses, various saws, etc.

• Operate backhoes, bulldozers, line trucks and other equipment

• Insure equipment is in proper working order

• Perform other functions such as chemical spraying of weeds, bush hogging, chipper oration and other duties assigned by supervision

• Stay current and proficient as to required safety training and certification

• Maintain safety practices and procedures

• Perform other job related work as required 

 

Job Requirements:

• Be a graduate of an accredited high school or have a GED.  

• Must have a valid driver’s license, and a driving record suitable for insurability.  

• Must be able to obtain a Commercial Driver License (CDL) within 6 months.  

• Must have good reading skills and have the ability to effectively communicate in order to understand plans, manuals, directives, and receive instructions.

• Willing to travel overnight to attend continuing education courses/workshops.  

• Must have experience in climbing poles and not be afraid of heights.  

• Must have knowledge of practices, methods and equipment employed in electrical power construction.  Able to lift up to 200 pounds.  

• Ability to analyze and evaluate situations under extreme duress.  

• Willing to work non-standard hours and overtime as required and able to respond after hours for emergencies.  

• Be physically able to perform the essential functions of the position (walking, climbing, stooping, and bending).
