Department:        Sportplex

Hours:                    Night Hours (3:00 p.m. – 11:00 p.m.) occasional overtime will be required

Rate:                       Grade 8        

 

Summary:

The role of the Security Guard is to endure the safety of visitors to the Alex City Sportplex.  The Security Guard will be responsible for the following: patrolling the sports fields, assisting with visitor’s issues, assisting with disorderly visitors and completing security reports.  This position reports directly to Parks and Recreation Director.

 

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Watches for irregularities, facility and safety hazards, and emergency situations; contacts emergency responders, such as police, fire, and/or ambulance personnel as required
  • Remains alert for the presence of unauthorized persons; approaches suspicious person and/or notifies police as appropriate; may confront and detain violators, as required, until police arrive
  • Patrols assigned area on foot, or in golf cart as assigned, to ensure personal, building, and equipment security
  • Examines doors, windows, and gates to ensure security
  • Provides escorts as necessary
  • Informs and warns violators of rule infractions, such as loitering, smoking, or carrying forbidden
  • Performs periodic checks of street lights to ensure proper functioning; reports all malfunctioning as required
  • Performs job-related duties as assigned

 

Job Requirements:

  • Must be a graduate of an accredited high school or GED 
  • Must have a driver’s license and good driving record to be insurable
  • Willing to work non-standard hours and overtime as required 
  • Must have good communication skills both orally and in writing 
  • Ability to work outside in extreme weather conditions 
  • Ability to comprehend numerous policies, procedures, concepts and to be able to respond, using discretion and interpretive judgment based on general and specific policies 
  • Ability to retain knowledge, information, and directions on an ongoing basis.
  • Must be able to react appropriately in emergency situations 
  • Knowledge of cardiopulmonary resuscitation and first aid is preferred
  • Knowledge of portable fire extinguishers and their locations 
  • Ability to walk extended periods of time.  Must be physically able to perform the essential functions of the position (walking, climbing, stooping, and bending)
