JOB:  Right-of-Way Technician I

DEPARTMENT:  Property Maintenance

PAY GRADE:  10

HOURS:  Daytime hours, with occasional overtime

           

JOB SUMMARY:

This is a working position with the primary responsibility of operating equipment to maintain City rights-of-way. Incumbent works under the general supervision of the Facility Maintenance Superintendent.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Operates equipment such as tractor with bush hog, articulated boom cutter, pole saws, and chain saws in the maintenance of City rights-of-way.
  • Assists in the general maintenance of equipment used by performing pre-work safety inspections of equipment and performing preventative maintenance including checking fluids, tire pressure, fuel and gauges.
  • Performs manual labor related to the maintenance of City rights-of-way and properties including herbicide application, trimming, weed eating, etc.
  • Performs flagman duties as necessary.
  • Perform all other tasks/duties as assigned.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND Abilities:

  • Knowledge of City and department rules, regulations, policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of City streets and locations
  • Knowledge of safety rules and incident causation and prevention
  • Knowledge of equipment and power tool maintenance
  • Ability to operate light to medium duty equipment including pickup trucks, tractors with attachments, chainsaws, etc.
  • Ability to communicate well with supervisor, employees, and citizens.
  • Ability to work under extreme weather conditions.
  • Ability to move/lift objects of at least 50 lbs.

 

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Be a high school graduate, or hold a certificate of high school equivalency (GED).
  • Possess a current and valid driver’s license and be insurance.  
  • One (I) year of work experience operating a tractor and bushhog, or any combination of education, training and experience that demonstrates the above listed knowledge, skills and abilities commensurate with the requirements of this job.
  • Ability to work non-standard hours as required.
  • Be physically able to perform the essential functions of the position.
