Hours: ​​Varies, primarily evenings with some weekends required 

Pay:​  ​ ​ Grade 14,    $17.11/hr 

 

Summary:

The Athletics/Programs Assistant plays a vital role in supporting the Parks and Recreation Department by assisting in the planning, coordination, and execution of various athletic programs and recreational activities. This position involves working closely with the Athletics/Programs Coordinators to ensure the successful operation of sports leagues, tournaments,swimming pools (in summer,) and other community programsand events. 

 

Primary Responsibilities:

• Assist in the planning and implementation of athletic programs, including leagues, clinics and tournaments.

• Help coordinate registration process, including participant sign-ups, fee collection, and waiver management.

• Assist in preparing and maintaining program schedules, rosters, and participant records. 

• Support the coordination and execution of evening and after regular business hours sporting events. 

• Must have knowledge of rules and regulations across varietyof youth and adult sports. 

• Help set-up and break down from events, including field and court preparations.

• Provide on-site assistance during events to ensure a smooth and safe experience for participants and spectators. 

• Interact with participants, parents, coaches, and communitymembers to address inquiries and provide information on programs and events.

• Resolve participant concerns and conflicts in a professional and courteous manner. 

• Assist with pool operations during pool season including managing the pool on weekends. 

• Must be willing to take and pass Red Cross Lifeguardcertification courses.

• Must be able to swim and lift up to 50lbs.

• Assist with special events planning and operations. Workspecial events including Oktoberfest, Downtown Christmas, etc…

• Perform other duties as required

 

Job Requirements:

• Must have the ability to obtain required certifications and/or licenses.  CPR and basic first aid training and certification are required or must obtain within 6 months. 

• It is essential to have a good working knowledge of sports, including rules and regulations, lay-out of fields, how to care for baseball and softball infields, and ability to build a pitcher’s mound.  

• Must be proficient with Microsoft Office applications.  

• Must have good communication skills in expressing ideas clearly, concisely, and have good telephone etiquette.  

• Must be high energy, self-motivated, and be focus driven.  

• Willing to work non-standard hours, able to work nights and weekends. 

• Ability to plan and organize with little or no supervision.  Ability to maintain confidential files in a timely, efficient and orderly fashion. 

• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationship with the Parks and Recreation maintenance supervisor/staff, general public, elected officials, department heads and local business community.  

• Possess a valid Alabama driver’s license and a driving record suitable for insurability.  

• Be physically able to perform the essential functions of the position.
