Rate:                     Grade 14

 

Summary:

This position is primary responsible of assisting the Director of Parks and Recreation in planning, developing, promoting and continuance of quality programs and special events in the City.  Duties include the coordination of fields, facilities and personnel to best support planned activities.  Works under the general supervision of the Director of Parks and Recreation. 

 

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Assist the Director of Parks and Recreation in the planning, development and continuance of quality programs for the City
  • Provide for the coordination of fields, facilities and personnel to best support planned activities
  • Coordinate ongoing and special projects such as Oktoberfest, Christmas in the Park, Sun Festival, camps, ball tournaments, fishing tournaments and parties
  • Organize and the staffing of  lifeguards at the City and cooper Recreation pools
  • Organize the counselors in the youth football cheerleading programs
  • Assist with all afternoon youth sport programs
  • Responsible for other community wide functions throughout the year
  • Enforce safety and other regulations as they apply to City sponsored parks and recreation activities
  • Perform administrative functions as needed to include appropriate record keeping
  • Represent the City at various meeting and conventions
  • Perform other duties as required

 

Job Requirements:

An associate’s degree from an accredited two-year institution is preferred. Must have experience in recreation, health activities or public administration.Must have the ability to obtain required certifications and/or licenses.Have two years of experience in management, interacting with the public or operation of parks and recreational programs.Must be able to obtain lifeguard certification and Red Cross swimming lesson certification.Have good computer skills, Microsoft Windows, word and excel.  Must have good communication skills in expressing ideas clearly and concisely and good phone etiquette.  Must be high energy and be focus driven.  Willing to work non-standard hours, able to work nights, weekends and overtime as required.  Ability to plan and organize with little or no supervision.  Ability to maintain confidential files in a timely, efficient and orderly fashion.  Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationship with the Parks and Recreation maintenance supervisor/staff, general public, elected officials, department heads and local business community.  Possess a valid Alabama driver’s license and a driving record suitable for insurability.  Willing to travel overnight to attend continuing education courses and workshops.  Physical demands include but not limited to standing, walking, bending, pushing and sitting.
