Job:                          EMT - Part-time (Basic, Advanced, or Paramedic)  4 positions

Department:         EMS

Salary:                     Grades 13, 15, or 17 depending on credential (Click here to view payscale)

Hours:                     29 hours per week

 

Summary:

Under the supervision of the EMS Director, the employee must be able to safely and effectively respond to emergency and non-emergency medical calls in accordance with the medical protocol for certified Emergency Medical Technician – Basic, Advanced, and/or Paramedic.

 

Primary Responsibilities

  • Answer calls from Dispatch for emergency or non-emergency medical transports
  • Assess the situation, gather necessary information, take vitals and determine appropriate course of action
  • Safely transport patients to the appropriate medical facility
  • Responsible for documenting patient information for medical records, legal and billing purposes
  • Maintain the cleanliness of the station, all apparatus, and equipment – ensuring that equipment is in good working order and ready for use at all times
  • Keep ambulances stocked with equipment and medications as needed
  • Perform any other tasks as assigned

 

Qualifications

  • Be a graduate of an accredited high school or GED. 
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Must possess a valid Alabama driver’s license and a driving record suitable for insurability 
  • Must possess a current State and Nationally Registered EMT-B, EMT-A, or EMT-P License
  • Willing to work non-standard hours and overtime as required
  • Ability to protect and maintain the confidentiality of all patients
  • Must be able to physically perform the essential functions of the position (walking, climbing, stooping, lifting and bending)
  • Must be professional in all aspects of the position, whether in the field, at a health care facility, or at the station
  • Must be able to able to effectively communicate with superiors, co-workers and the public
  • Must be able to work independently to complete tasks without supervision
  • Required to participate in ongoing training and education to stay updated on the latest medial advancements, protocols and techniques, and also maintain their certification
