Job:                       Maintenance Worker

Department:      Parks and Recreation - Sportplex

Hours:                  Day Hours     (occasional overtime required)

Rate:                      Grade 10 

 

Summary:

This position participates in the maintenance of City parks and recreation facilities.  Works under the direct supervision of the Assistant Director of Parks & Recreation.

 

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Participates in the maintenance of city parks, athletic fields, pools, and related facilities; performs turf management duties; prepares athletic fields for play.
  • Operates a variety of grounds maintenance equipment, including hand and power tools.
  • Installs and maintains landscaping.
  • Assists in preparing for tournaments, special events, and programs.
  • Performs other related duties as required.

 

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Knowledge of parks and grounds maintenance principles and practices.
  • Knowledge of athletic field maintenance principles.
  • Knowledge of turf management principles.
  • Knowledge of preventative maintenance techniques and requirements for pools and recreational facilities.
  • Knowledge in maintaining plants, sod and shrubbery.
  • Skill in the use of hand and power tools.
  • Skill in the use of a variety of grounds maintenance tools and equipment.
  • Skill in problem solving.
  • Skill in interpersonal relations.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both oral and written.
  • Ability to read and interpret relative plans and drawings.
  • Ability to operate light to medium duty trucks, mowers, and a variety of grounds maintenance equipment.

 

Job Requirements:

  • Must be a graduate of an accredited high school or GED
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and driving record suitable for insurability
  • Experience in operating mowers, tractors, chain saws, string trimmers, top-dressers
  • Willing to work non-standard hours and overtime as required
  • Must be physically able to perform the essential functions of the position (walking, climbing, stooping, and bending)
