Department:      Parks and Recreation

Hours:                  Day Hours     occasion overtime will be required

Rate:                     Grade 10 

 

Summary:

The Maintenance Worker position entails general labor in maintenance and upkeep of recreational grounds, facilities, buildings, playing fields, pools, and golf course when needed.  Works under the direct supervision of the Sportplex Superintendent.

 

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Maintain grounds, buildings, playing fields, and pool
  • Receive oral and written assignments which may be accompanied by rough sketches or drawings
  • Perform routine labor as required
  • Operate grounds and facilities maintenance equipment such as lawn mowers, trimmers and buffers
  • Assist at golf course with the use of fungicides, herbicides and insecticides for control of diseases and insects that are harmful to the golf course
  • Assist in developing plans, reviewing and participating in construction projects as well as construction of playing fields, greens and tees
  • Demonstrate continuous effort to improve operations, decreases turnaround times, control expenses, streamline work processes and work cooperatively and jointly to provide quality seamless customer service
  • Perform other job related duties as required

 

Job Requirements:

  • Must be a graduate of an accredited high school or GED
  • Must have a driver’s license and good driving record to be insurable
  • Knowledge of preventative maintenance techniques and requirements for buildings, swimming pool filtering system and recreational facilities
  • Knowledge in maintaining plants, sod and shrubbery
  • Must have experience in operating; mowers, tractors, chain saws, string trimmers, top-dressers, front end loaders, back-hoe
  • Must have some electrical and plumbing experience
  • Willing to work non-standard hours and overtime as required
  • Must be physically able to perform the essential functions of the position (walking, climbing, stooping, and bending)
