Job:  Maintenance Technician

Department:  Parks & Rec

Pay Grade:  Grade 12

Hours:  Full-time, day time hours with some overtime

 

Summary:

This is a skilled working level position with the responsibility to ensure all Parks and Recreation buildings and facilities are properly maintained to include roofs, walls, doors, windows, exterior and interior facades, infrastructure, etc. Duties also include equipment maintenance and special projects. Works under general supervision of the Sportplex Superintendent.

 

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Communicate with vendors/contractors, and oversee contract work
  • Prepare job specifications, material lists, cost estimates, etc. as necessary
  • Operate a variety of hand tools and power equipment including mowers, tractors, chain saws, string trimmers, top-dressers, front end loaders, back-hoe and trucks
  • Operate all types of woodworking equipment to include table saw, radical saw, planer, jointer, drill, etc.
  • Perform window, door, and minor roof repairs (metal and shingles)
  • Install/hang doors
  • Demolish and/or construct interior building partitions
  • Perform concrete work (forming, pouring and finishing)
  • Perform/finish carpentry work, i.e., moldings, trim work, cabinets, etc.
  • Respond in an expeditious and timely manner to all work requests
  • Perform minor plumbing needs.
  • Assist in the planning, layout and maintenance of buildings and properties
  • Plan and coordinate maintenance support for special projects
  • Responsible for following all City safety policies and procedures in the performance of assigned duties.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned by the Sportplex Superintendent and/or Director of Parks and Recreation.

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of building and facility maintenance
  • Knowledge of carpentry, plumbing, and electrical
  • Knowledge of standard maintenance methods and techniques, relative tools, etc.
  • Ability to troubleshoot maintenance issues
  • Ability to read and interpret plans, blueprints, schematics, manuals, etc.
  • Ability to build scope of work and oversee work performed by approved contractors
  • Ability to perform carpentry work
  • Ability to interpret instructions, whether oral or written.
  • Ability to work at above ground levels on ladders or scaffolds
  • Ability to operate required tools and equipment

 

Job Requirements:

Must be a graduate from an accredited high school or hold a certificate of high school equivalency (GED). Must possess a valid Alabama driver's license, and driving record suitable for insurability. Minimum of three (3) years building maintenance experience or equivalent preferred. Must be willing to work weekends and non-standard hours when needed Must be able to lift 75-100 lbs. and physically able to perform the essential functions of the position (walking, climbing, stooping and bending) Willing to travel overnight to attend continuing education courses and workshops.
