Summary:

Skilled position requiring professional performance in the operation, maintenance and repair of overhead and repair of overhead and underground electrical distribution systems to include operation of a variety of specialized equipment.  Works under supervision of the Assistant Superintendent, Line Foreman and direction of the Lead Lineman.

Primary Responsibilities:

Perform skilled work in the reconstructing, maintaining and repairing, electrical systems and equipment, including substation, distribution systems, transformers and power lines
Perform skilled work in placing and removing crossarms, stringing wires, tapping wires; repairing crossarms and wires; placing and replacing insulators and setting transformers
Dig holes, frame poles; set poles; string wire; hang transformers; sag up wire; energize power lines
Dig trenches and lays conduit and vaults
Splice wire and cable
Inspect, test, calibrate and adjust various controls or meters used in the electrical system
Operate a variety of equipment and trucks and the use of attached equipment such as power diggers, winches or cranes
Install and connect wire meters and other electrical services on customer premises
Set poles, anchors and guys
Keep inventory, time, and material records as assigned; stock service vehicles as required
Trim trees and branches as required
Insure equipment is in proper working order
Respond to customer complaints
Maintain safety practices and procedures
Perform other job related work as required

Job Requirements:

Be a graduate of an accredited high school or have a GED. 
Must have a valid driver’s license and a driving record suitable for insurability.
Must have valid Commercial Driver License (CDL.)
Hold or have the ability to obtain a Journeyman lineman and CPR certification within 12 months.
Knowledge of the principles, practices, methods and equipment employed in the modern electrical power construction and supply. 
Knowledge of safety rules including accident causation and prevention. 
Extensive knowledge of the geography of the City and its power supply jurisdiction as well as the location of primary and secondary distribution sites. 
Must have good reading skills and have the ability to effectively communicate in order to understand plans, manuals, directives, and receive instructions.
Willing to travel overnight to attend continuing education courses/workshops. 
Must have experience in climbing poles and not be afraid of heights. 
Must have knowledge of practices, methods and equipment employed in electrical power construction. 
Able to lift up to 200 pounds. 
Ability to analyze and evaluate situations under extreme duress. 
Willing to work non-standard hours and overtime as required and able to respond after hours for emergencies. 
Be physically able to perform the essential functions of the position (walking, climbing, stooping, and bending).
