JOB TITLE:                   Library Assistant I (part-time)

GRADE:                          8                   

DEPARTMENT:            Library

HOURS:                         As outlined below (Part-time)

 

JOB SUMMARY:  This position involves the application of standard library techniques, circulation, cataloging, reference, and research.  Reports to the Library Director.

 

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Perform duties requiring the application of standard library techniques and procedures and typical area of assignment to include circulation, cataloging, reference, research, and audio/video circulation.
  • Answer reference questions for patrons and perform reader’s advisory services
  • Assist and guide patrons in the use of electronic resources
  • Prepare bulletin boards, exhibits and displays
  • Maintain book inventory, audio/video collection and repair
  • Assist patrons in use of computers
  • Assist public in selection and use of audio-visual materials and equipment
  • Operate Library automated check-in/out; collect and post all money
  • Attend continuing education classes and seminars as required
  • Perform other job related tasks and duties as assigned.

 

HOURS:

Monday – Thursday 1:00 – 5:00 pm

Friday – Off

Saturday 9:00 am – 1:00 pm

*Hours could fluctuate on occasion

 

QUALIFICATIONS:  High School graduate or hold GED.  Any library science studies or associate degree preferred.  Preferably a minimum of 1 year of experience in library work, or a combination of education and experience equivalent to these requirements.  Ability to use automated library systems and other forums of technology.  Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees and Library patrons.
