Pay Rate:                Grade 19     

Hours:                     Day Hours  (Occasion Overtime Required)

 

Summary:

This is a responsible, lead working position that includes the planning of operations, while providing leadership and supervision to junior personnel in all tree climbing and trimming activity associated with the Light Department.  Incumbent works under general supervision of the Light Department Assistant Superintendent

 

  Primary Responsibilities:

  • Exhibit leadership and expertise in the accomplishment of daily tasks to include job completion, safety compliance, on-site verification of work performed, and vehicle/equipment use and maintenance
  • Assist with Departmental activities and training with regard to assigned duties
  • Take initiative in the implementation of new jobs, projects, or functions as opportunities arise
  • Conduct chemical mixing and spraying as needed
  • Provide directions for operations in absence of higher authority
  • Perform routine labor as required
  • Perform all other job-related tasks and duties as assigned

 

Job Requirements:

  • Be a graduate of an accredited high school or have a GED. 
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and CDL with a driving record suitable for insurability. 
  •  Tree trimming experience of 5-7 years preferred
  • Ability to supervise and provide leadership to staff
  • Must have good communication skills both oral and written
  • Must have knowledge of safety rules including accident causation and prevention, and to train junior personnel in the safe use of required tools and equipment
  • Ability to analyze and evaluate situations under extreme duress and direct effective courses of action
  • Ability to work well with the general public and other City departments
  • Willing to work non-standard hours and overtime as required and able to respond after hours for emergencies. 
  • Willing to travel overnight to attend continuing education courses/workshops. 
  • Be physically able to perform the essential functions of the position (walking, climbing, stooping, and bending in the heat and cold).
