Lead Lineman

Summary:
This is a working position that includes providing leadership to all electrical utility workers in the Electric Department. Works under the general supervision of the Assistant Superintendent and Superintendent.
Primary Responsibility:
- Exhibit leadership and expertise in the accomplishment of daily tasks; job completion, safety compliance, on-site verification of work performed and vehicle/equipment use and maintenance
- Assistant with departmental activities and training with regard to line work.
- Perform and exhibit leadership in hot line work
- Perform in an example-setting/mentoring role during in-house training
- Take initiative in the implementation of new jobs, projects or functions as opportunities arise
- Perform and provide leadership by example in the accomplishment of routine tasks
- Provide directions for operations in absence of higher authority
- Perform other job-related duties as assigned
Job Requirements:
- Must be a graduate from an accredited high school a GED
- Knowledge of the principles, practices, methods and equipment employed in the modern electrical power construction and supply
- Must have at least 3 years-experience with hot work
- Must have a valid driver’s license and have a valid Commercial Driver License (CDL). Must have a driving record suitable for insurability
- Hold or have the ability to obtain a Journeyman lineman certification in 12 months
- Required to receive CPR certification within 12 months
- Knowledge of safety rules including accident causation and prevention
- Extensive knowledge of the geography of the City and its power supply jurisdiction as well as the location of primary and secondary distribution sites
- Must have good reading skills and have the ability to effectively communicate in order to understand plans, manuals, directives, and receive instructions
- Willing to travel overnight to attend continuing education courses/workshops.
- Must have experience in climbing poles and not be afraid of heights
- Ability to analyze and evaluate situations under extreme duress
- Willing to work non-standard hours and overtime as required and able to respond after hours for emergencies
- Be physically able to perform the essential functions of the position (walking, climbing, stooping, and bending) and lift up to 75 pounds
