Department:           Street Department – Public Works

Pay Rate:                  Grade 9       

Hours:                        Day Hours - occasional overtime will be required

 

Summary:

This position entails general labor in support of maintenance and construction assignments regarding the City’s facilities and structures.  Works under general supervision of the Street Department Superintendent. 

 

Primary Responsibility:

  • Complete maintenance and/or construction assignments regarding City structures, facilities and properties in a timely and efficient manner
  • Build and repair drain boxes, curbs, dig ditches, lay pipe, block and brick
  • Finishing and building cement forms
  • Ability to drive dump truck and patch truck when required
  • Perform minor tasks using backhoe, bulldozer, sweeper, loader and other equipment when necessary
  • Perform other duties as assigned

 

Job Requirements:

  • Be a graduate from an accredited high school or GED. 
  • Must have a valid drivers’ license, and a driving record suitable for insurability.  Knowledge of operating a loader, bulldozer, and light to medium trucks is preferable. 
  • Ability to effectively communicate with others. 
  • Must be physically able to perform the essential functions of the position (walking, standing, squatting, bending, twisting, kneeling and lift a minimum of 50 pounds). 
  • Experience in finishing cement and building cement forms, and experience in laying block is preferred.
  • Performing manual tasks for extended periods of time and in unfavorable weather conditions (temperatures of over 90 degrees and below 32 degrees). 
  • Must be willing to work overtime and weekends in emergencies.
