Job:                             Foreman, Green Gateway and City Cemetery

Department:            Property Maintenance

Pay Rate:                   Grade 12

Hours:                        Daytime Hours  (occasional overtime will be required)

 

Summary:

This is a working supervisory position with the primary responsibility of providing general maintenance and operation of the Green Gateway (landscape maintenance) and the City Cemetery.  Includes the responsibility of marking grave locations, digging of graves, and coordinating with family members and funeral homes.  Incumbent works under the general supervision of the Facilities Maintenance Superintendent.

 

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Oversees assigned personnel to include job assignments, safety supervision, inspection of work performed, and vehicle/equipment use and maintenance
  • Coordinates interments with families, funeral homes, and City Clerk
  • Operates equipment such as zero-turn mowers, backhoes, pole saws, and chain saws
  • Prepare and maintain grave location records
  • Train and instruct personnel with regard to policies, procedures, safety, and equipment
  • Develop and implement new jobs, projects, or functions as needed
  • Perform routine labor as required
  • Perform all other job-related tasks assigned by the Facility Maintenance Superintendent

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of safety rules including accident causation and prevention
  • General working knowledge of all assigned equipment
  • Writing skills to complete required forms and records
  • Ability to communicate information to the Facility Maintenance Superintendent
  • Ability to work well with the general public and other necessary contacts
  • Ability to communicate specific, and sometimes detailed, instructions to assigned personnel
  • Ability to coordinate assigned projects and duties with other supervisors and their personnel

 

Job Requirements:

  • Be a graduate of an accredited high school or have a GED. 
  • Must have a valid driver’s license, with a driving record suitable for insurability.
  • 2-3 years of general mowing and equipment operation experience, including at least 1 year in a leadership role
  • Must be able to effectively communicate both orally and in writing
  • Willing to work overtime and weekends in emergencies
  • Able to work in inclement weather conditions  
  • Be physically able to perform the essential functions of the position (walking, climbing, stooping, and bending).
