Firefighter/EMT

Job:                             Trainee – Part-time (Full time positions may also be available. Contact for more info.)

Pay Rate:                   Based on Certification Level - Uncertified, $12/hr 

Hours:                        Day Hours   

Summary:

Under the supervision of the Fire Captains and Administrative staff, the trainee begins to learn all aspects of the Alexander City Fire Department’s suppression operation.  As full-time openings occur, these positions are filled from the part-time pool of certified Fire and EMT trainees.

Primary Responsibilities:

• Assist firefighters with routine safety checks of gear and equipment
• Helps wash and disinfect fire trucks and ambulances
• Assists with flushing of fire hydrants
• Rides with certified personnel on calls
• Other tasks as assigned

Job Requirements:

• Be a graduate of an accredited high school or have a GED
• Must be at least 18 years of age
• Must pass a pre-employment competency test
• Must be able to pass Candidate Physical Ability Test (CPAT)
• Shall complete the Firefighter I Course with one year of employment
• Must attain a State EMT Basic license and retain per State regulation
• Must have a driving record suitable for insurability.
• Must be able to effectively communicate with superiors, co-workers, and the public.
• Must be professional in all aspects of this position, whether in the field, at a health care facility, or at the station
• Be physically able to perform the essential functions of the position (walking, climbing, stooping, lifting, and bending).
