Department:  Street

Salary:  Grade 10

Hours:  Daytime Hours – Occasional Overtime

 

Summary:

Under the supervision of the Street Superintendent, the employee operates light to heavy duty trucks and equipment, and performs manual labor to complete assigned tasks in support of street maintenance.

 

Primary Responsibility:

  • Operates light to heavy duty trucks including standard dump truck, street sweeper, patch truck, etc.
  • Operates some equipment to include backhoe and light duty tractor when necessary.
  • Ensures that trucks are properly loaded/unloaded.
  • Dumps and spreads dirt, asphalt, gravel, sand, and other materials.
  • Performs basic routine maintenance on trucks and equipment.
  • Performs flagman duties, as needed, while on road maintenance jobs.
  • Operates power tools such as chainsaw and various hand tools for road and ROW maintenance.
  • Performs manual labor to assist with various tasks associated with maintaining City streets and right of ways including cleaning out ditches, clearing debris from streets, sidewalk repairs etc.
  • All other duties as necessary.

 

Job Requirements:

Be a graduate from an accredited high school or GED.  Must be willing to work overtime and weekends in emergencies.  Must have a valid drivers’ license. Class B CDL preferred; otherwise must obtain CDL within 6 months of start date.  Driving record must be suitable for insurability.  Good driving skills and ability to read maps.   Comfortable with working outdoors in all weather conditions.  Must be able to operate light to heavy duty trucks, backhoe, street sweeper, etc.  Ability to perform general maintenance on assigned equipment and trucks.  Ability to effectively communicate with others.  Must be physically able to perform the essential functions of the position (walking, standing, bending and lift a minimum of 50 pounds).
