JOB TITLE: Custodian, Municipal Complex

DEPARTMENT: Public Works – Building Maintenance

GRADE: Pay Grade 8

HOURS: Day Time Hours

 

JOB SUMMARY:

This is a semi-skilled position which performs a full range of custodial duties related to the care, maintenance and cleaning of the Municipal Complex. The incumbent reports to the Facility Maintenance Supervisor.

 

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Vacuum, sweep, scrub, mop, and operate cleaning equipment.
  • Clean, dust, and polish furniture; clean and wash interior windows and woodwork.
  • Clean restrooms and fixtures as necessary to maintain proper physical appearance and cleanliness.
  • Maintain break areas, conference rooms and gym.
  • Replace lavatory supplies, dispose of waste paper, empty trash, and maintain inventory of cleaning supplies and equipment.
  • Clean and sanitize drinking fountains.
  • Follows procedures for the use of chemical cleaners and power machinery to prevent damage to floors and fixtures.
  • Manages inventory of cleaning supplies.
  • Report any safety, sanitary, or fire hazards to the appropriate department.
  • Perform other job related duties as required.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Be a high school graduate or hold a GED
  • Experience in cleaning, sanitation and janitorial work is a plus.
  • Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions.
  • Comfortable lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds, squatting, twisting, bending, and kneeling while performing task.
  • Be able to stand and walk most of the work day.
  • Ability to climb ladders and work from heights as needed.
  • Must possess a valid Alabama driver’s license and driving record suitable for insurability.
  • Reports needs and concerns to appropriate staff.
  • Ensures proper care in the use and maintenance of equipment and supplies; promotes continuous improvement of workplace safety and environmental practices.
