Summary:
This position consist of manual work cleaning and maintaining Adelia M. Russell Library and Mamie’s Place Children’s Library. Work involves routine cleaning following an established routine and requires minimal direct supervision. Position reports to the Superintendent of Building Maintenance.
Primary Responsibility:
- Responsible for cleaning the main library and the children’s library
- Vacuum, sweep, scrub, mop, all floors; clean, dust and polish furniture; clean and wash woodwork, toilets, washrooms, circulation desks and work areas, kitchen, including all areas of both buildings including fixtures as necessary to maintain proper physical appearance and cleanliness
- Replace all lavatory supplies, dispose of waste paper, move furniture, empty trash, and maintain inventory of cleaning supplies and equipment
- Police grounds for unwanted paper and debris
- Help maintain safety
- Change out light bulbs and report malfunctioning equipment
- Clean windows and blinds, help maintain elevator maintenance, clean water fountain (outside), perform maintenance checks in boiler room, AC/Heating units and report to Library Director anything that needs repair or maintenance, maintain pavilion, parking lots and other outdoor areas
- Perform other job related tasks and duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:
Ability to work well with library staff, city employees, library patrons
Possess knowledge of scheduling and time management
Record keeping - maintenance/supplies
Regular and punctual attendance
Pleasing manner / ability to work well with others
Physical requirements:
May lift 20 – 50 lbs.
Standing, sitting, reaching, walking, climbing, stooping, cleaning, scrubbing, stretching
Stays mobile most of the work day
Education, Training, and Experience Required:
High School diploma or GED required
1-2 years Custodial experience is preferred
