Salary:          Grade 11                

Hours:          Daytime hours   (occasional overtime)

 

Summary:

The brush truck operator’s primary purpose is supporting roadside pickup of debris.  The work involves the operation of a heavy duty truck with grapple loader.  This position reports to the Environmental Services Superintendent.

 

Primary Responsibility:

  • Drives the brush truck on defined routes daily
  • Operates a grapple loader to load items for transportation to the city’s landfill
  • Assists other city departments with debris removal as needed
  • Assists in performing duties to properly operate the city’s landfill
  • Operates loader, bulldozer, and dump truck as needed
  • Clears roads of fallen trees and limbs following storms or emergencies
  • Performs routine labor with the recycling and landfill areas
  • Performs periodic safety inspections and preventative maintenance on assigned equipment
  • Performs all other job related task or duties as assigned by management

 

Job Requirements:

  • Minimum of 2 years equipment operating experience preferred, or any combination of education, training, and experience that meets the requirements of the position.
  • Must be a graduate of an accredited high school or possess a GED. 
  • Must be willing to work overtime and weekends in emergencies. 
  • Must possess a current and valid driver license; Class B CDL preferred. (If not, must obtain CDL within 6 months.)
  • Driving record must be suitable for insurability. 
  • Must be able to operate a grapple, loader, bulldozer, and heavy duty truck. 
  • Ability to perform general maintenance on assigned equipment. 
  • Must be willing to travel for training as necessary and be able to obtain and maintain ADEM landfill operator certification within 18 months from hire date.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with co-workers and the general public. 
  • Must be physically able to perform the essential functions of the position; walking, standing, bending, climbing a ladder (climbing up and down as many as 50 times per day) and lift a minimum of 50 pounds.
