Hours:                 Day         (occasional overtime)

 

Summary: 

This is a responsible working supervisory position who directs assigned personnel in maintaining the electrical utility system of the Alexander City.  Works under the general supervision of the Superintendent.

 

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Supervise, assigned personnel to include job assignment, safety supervision, inspection of work performed and vehicle/equipment use and maintenance
  • Assist with planning, directing and controlling disaster emergency response operations as determined by laws, codes and regulations
  • Assist in coordinating emergency operations with other departmental heads
  • Assist with departmental activities and developing internal policies and controls
  • Assist with the development and implementation of new jobs, projects or functions
  • Maintain effective working relationship with Alabama Municipal Electrical Authority and Alabama Power Company to ensure reliable and competitive power availability for municipal power customers
  • Perform routine labor as required
  • Perform all other job related duties as assigned by Superintendent

 

Job Requirements:

  • Be a graduate from an accredited high school or have GED
  • Post-secondary certificate or degree desirable, with leadership or supervisory courses a plus
  • Successful candidate will have a minimum of 3-4 years in the distribution line work area
  • Must obtain CPR certification 
  • Possess a valid Alabama driver’s license and CDL – as well as a driving record suitable for insurability
  • Must have knowledge of the principles, practices, methods and equipment employed in modern electrical power construction and supply
  • Have extensive knowledge of the geography of the City and its power supply jurisdiction as well as the location of primary and secondary distribution sites
  • Must work well in a team environment with the ability to develop good working relationships
  • Must have good communication skills, both oral and written
  • Have the ability to analyze and evaluate situations under extreme duress and direct effective courses of action
  • Ability to work well with the general public and other City employees 
  • Ability to understand plans, blueprints, manuals, directives, instructions and procedures
  • Possess basic working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • Willing to work non-standard hours and overtime as required 
  • Willing to travel overnight to attend continuing education courses and workshops as required
  • Must be physically able to perform the essential functions of the position (walking, standing, squatting, bending, twisting, kneeling and lift a minimum of 75 pounds) 
  • Performing manual tasks for extended periods of time and in unfavorable weather conditions (temperatures of over 90 degrees and below 32 degrees)
