Summary: 

This is a working supervisory position with the primary responsibility of assisting the Director of Parks & Recreation in planning, development, promotion and continuance of quality athletic programs for the City.  Duties include the coordination of fields, facilities, and personnel to best support planned activities.  Works under the general supervision of the Director of Parks & Recreation. 

 

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Assist the Director of Parks and Recreation in the planning, development and continuance of quality athletic programs for the City
  • Provide for the coordination of fields, facilities and personnel to best support planned activities
  • Resolved issues between participants at sporting events
  • Attend City sponsored sporting events
  • Collect and be responsible for fees and registrations
  • Enforce safety and other regulations as they apply to City sponsored sporting activities
  • Perform administrative functions as needed to include appropriate record keeping
  • Organize all sports programs
  • Manage the turf maintenance program (this includes watering, fertilizing, spraying of chemicals, lining fields, painting football field, building pitching mounds, etc.)
  • Assist with all afternoon youth sport programs
  • Ensure all sport related equipment is maintained and stored properly
  • Represent the City at various meetings and conventions
  • Perform other duties as required

Job Requirements:

Must have the ability to obtain required certifications and/or licenses.CPR and basic first aid training and certification are required or must obtain within 6 months.  A turf management certification is preferred.  Successful candidate will have a good working knowledge of spraying herbicides, pesticides and the fertilization of all fields.

It is essential to have a good working knowledge of sports, including rules and regulations, lay-out of fields, how to care for baseball and softball infields, and ability to build a pitcher’s mound.

Must be proficient with Microsoft Office applications.

Must have good communication skills in expressing ideas clearly, concisely, and have good telephone etiquette.

Must be high energy, self-motivated, and be focus driven.

Willing to work non-standard hours, able to work nights, weekends and overtime as required. 

Ability to plan and organize with little or no supervision.Ability to maintain confidential files in a timely, efficient and orderly fashion.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationship with the Parks and Recreation maintenance supervisor/staff, general public, elected officials, department heads and local business community.

Possess a valid Alabama driver’s license and a driving record suitable for insurability.

Willing to travel overnight to attend continuing education courses and workshops.  

Be physically able to perform the essential functions of the position.
