Hours:  Daytime Hours, and On-Call

Position Overview:

The Airport Operations Assistant is a part-time position reporting directly to the Airport Manager.  Incumbent is responsible for managing the day-to-day operational and managerial activities of the City’s airport in the absence of the Airport Manager. The employee must be on call on a 24/7 basis, while working a Monday-Friday work week and alternate weekends on an as needed basis.  

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Assists with the planning and managing of the day-to-day general aviation activities
  • Helps maintain viable and accessible runways, building facilities, airport security and fire protection, and manage plane traffic on the ramp
  • Initiate and sustain a positive, productive, and engaged relationship with City customers, tenants, and vendors.
  • Park and fuel aircraft
  • Process credit card purchases of fuel and fees
  • Maintains the terminal and ramp area
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge and understanding of applicable airport safety and security guidelines
  • Must have the ability to communicate verbally and in writing in a clear and concise manner
  • Available 24/7 to respond on-site to certain situations/emergencies within 30 minutes of Airport
  • Ability to analyze and evaluate situations under extreme duress and direct effective courses of action
  • Adhere to Airport Operations safety and confidentiality guidelines

Minimum Requirements/Job Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Associate degree or higher is preferred
  • Previous working experience at an airport is a plus
  • Possession of a pilot’s license with instrument rating is preferred
  • Must complete a thorough pre-employment screening process. Applicants may be subject to a TSA, or similar background check, and may be subject to drug testing as required by U.S. Code 8103 (Drug-free workplace requirement for Federal grant recipients)
  • Must have a valid Driver’s License and driving record suitable for insurability

Work Environment/Physical Demands:

  • Job regularly requires standing, walking, bending, reaching, or other physical exertion.  Incumbent will work both inside and outside, often being exposed to heat, cold, noise, and dust. The position also requires climbing ladders, and a need to lift to 75-100 pounds.
  • The employee will need to drive a City owned/leased vehicles when work tasks mandate.
