 JOB TITLE – ACCOUNTING SPECIALIST (Part-time)

DEPARTMENT - FINANCE

SALARY – GRADE 18

HOURS – DAYTIME HOURS 

 

JOB SUMMARY

The Accounting Specialist will process all facets of payroll and benefit related processes for the city.  This position will also assist with the processing of accounts payable and accounts receivable.  In addition, other accounting-related tasks will be performed including various reconciliations, account analysis, and special projects. 

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Weekly payroll processing, and related benefit reporting
  • Maintain control logs for audit
  • Reconcile employee deductions with vendor invoices
  • Match invoices and receipts for accounts payable processing
  • Enter invoices to accounts payable
  • Process vendor payments
  • Various account analysis and reconciliation
  • Perform other job-related tasks assigned by the Finance Director

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Possess ability to adhere to strict expectations related to sensitive and confidential information
  • Ability to plan and organize work and carry it through to completion
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees and all levels of management
  • Must possess solid communication capabilities (both oral and written.)
  • Must work well in a team environment with sound negotiation and problem-solving skills
  • Successful candidate will possess extreme attention to detail

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Associate degree in accounting, finance or related field is required, or at a minimum, must have completed basic accounting college courses
  •  3-5 years of increasing complex work experience in accounting or related field
  • Strong PC skills, with a proficiency in higher level Microsoft Excel functionality
  • Must possess a valid Alabama driver's license 
  • Willingness to work non-standard hours as required
  • Must be willing to travel overnight to attend continuing education courses and workshops
  • Be physically able to perform the essential functions of the position
