Due to the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, and declarations of a national state of emergency by the President and a state of emergency for the State of Alabama by the Governor, the  Alabama Supreme Court on March 13, 2020, issued Administrative Order Suspending All In-Person Court Proceedings For The Next Thirty Days. The Order directs that “all in-person proceedings in all state and local courts in Alabama, including but not limited to, proceedings in the circuit courts, district courts, juvenile courts, municipal courts, probate courts…are suspended beginning Monday, March 16, 2020, through Thursday, April 16, 2020.”

Exceptions to this suspension of in-person proceedings include, but are not limited to any proceedings necessary to protect the constitutional rights of criminal defendants, including bond-related matters and plea agreements for incarcerated individuals.

Therefore, pursuant to the Supreme Court’s March 13 Order, Municipal Court of Alexander City will not be held as scheduled on March 19, April 2 and April 16. The next date Municipal Court will be held is April 23, 2020, unless the Supreme Court extends the suspension of such proceedings.

The Magistrate will continue with all bond-related responsibilities. The Municipal Clerk shall post a memo advising the public of this development.

The Court will issue an Order on Monday but I wanted everyone to be aware of the Supreme Court’s directive.
