Salary:                     Grade 9          Step 1              $10.80

Hours:                     Day                 (occasional overtime)

Summary:

To perform a variety of semi-skilled duties involved in the care and maintenance of City grounds; and to perform specialized projects as assigned.

Primary Responsibilities:

Participate in a variety of plant maintenance and landscape duties including trimming trees, and shrubs, pulling weeds, mowing and edging lawns, sweeping or blowing debris from public paths and sidewalks.  Drive to and from destinations as assigned by Supervisor.  Operate a variety of tools and equipment including power tools, lawn mowers, trucks, tractors and bush hogs; perform general maintenance duties including refueling, and lubricating parts; make minor adjustments as necessary.  Assist in grounds inspections to ensure safety of the public and fellow workers; note possible safety   hazards or causes of injury; perform general maintenance and repairs as required.  Pick up litter from grounds throughout assigned areas.  Performing semi-skilled and skilled landscape maintenance.  Perform special projects as assigned.  Maintain equipment logs.  Perform other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements:

High School Diploma or GED required.  Must have valid Driver’s License.  Landscape maintenance experience preferred.  Must know the principals and practices of plant maintenance which include the pruning and trimming of a variety of trees and shrubs.  Must be able to care, operate and maintain a variety of power tools and equipment.  Must be able to operate zero turn lawn mower.  Observe possible safety hazards and react accordingly.  Must be able to effectively communicate   Establish and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers and others.  Must be able to perform physical requirements bending, squatting, twisting, kneeling and lifting.  Walking for extended periods of time.  Performing manual tasks for extended periods of time and in unfavorable weather conditions (temperatures of over 90 degrees and below 32 degrees).  Exposure to air contaminants, noise and vibration.
